On Black Friday - avoid the Relatives, the Mall traffic and the smell of day old turkey grease and ride with up to three other Baby Boomer members to Reading, PA and later Ephrata, PA in Lancaster County for a fun day of shopping and site seeing.
We can meet at the Barnes & Noble parking lot on Rte. 18 at the Brunswick Square Mall at 9:00am. I'll drive my new 2010 Camry on Rte. 18 to I-287 to I-78 East to Pennsylvania and Reading. We will avoid the PA-Turnpike tolls that way.
The “Vanity Fair” Outlets have a special sale on "Black Friday" and it is a good place to get basic jeans, shirts, underwear and coats as well as more exotic fare with brand names such as Lee®, Wrangler® and JanSport® to name a few. Visit their web site and get a $10.00 off coupon for every $100.00 you buy.
After a snack (we will still be full from Thanksgiving?) and a little more shopping, we can travel to Ephrata and experience the "Green Dragon" Markets and Auction - only open on Fridays. Besides the food, German, Pennsylvania Dutch and other ethnic groups’ styles, there are all kinds of produce, bakery goods, candy, paper products, hardware, antiques, pets & animals (alive or “dressed”), even bales of straw and hay for sale and a real auction in one of the ramshackle buildings. I like the old-fashioned cafeteria, the ½ pies for sale and the "outside" vendors.
If there is enough time on the way back, we can also make a quick stop at “Amelias Grocery Outlet” in New Holland, PA where all or most of the products have expired “sell by” dates but are acceptable by Government standards and are up to 70% less than normal prices.
Before leaving the area around 4:00pm, we can eat at the Windmill Restaurant in Morgantown, PA if everyone wants to stop. Some of the dishes have “Pennsylvania Dutch” sounding names and are “Wunderful Good.” I like the "Chicken Bot Bie."
Just pay your share of the bridge tolls and gas and bring your favorite CD to hear in the car. Please leave the driving and the tour guiding to me.
Our estimated time back to the Barnes & Noble parking lot on Rte. 18 should be around 7:00pm.
