Union County Preforming Arts Center, 1601 Irving Street, Rahway, NJ presents
Simple Gifts
Folk Music Trio

Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 3:00pm for $15.00

Three women plus twelve instruments equals one good time when Simple Gifts takes the stage. Combining tradition with innovation, Simple Gifts creates some of the finest arrangements in folk music today: swing fiddle creeps into a Romanian dance, spoons show up in an Irish reel, and the concertina ventures far beyond styles considered traditional for that instrument.

Easy Directions: FROM ROUTES 1 & 9 (NORTHBOUND)
After entering Rahway, you will see a Comfort Suites Hotel to your left and Route 1 Auto Mall to your right. Be sure to stay in the right-most lane –THIS BECOMES YOUR EXIT LANE. As Granite Plaza (green sign) approaches, continue to stay right and at the stop sign make a left onto Hazelwood Avenue. Follow Hazelwood to the first traffic light and turn right onto Main Street. Follow Main Street to the traffic light at Elizabeth Avenue. Turn left onto Elizabeth Avenue. At the stop sign make a right onto Irving Street. The Arts Center is one block ahead on the right.

    •  Even though the concert was Sold Out, I saw may be 10 seats open. It may have been because of the weather but it was well worth it - thanks Joanna for selling me your ticket. The clear tones and the precision of the “ringers” with the bells and chimes are the reasons why I like a Hand Bell concert, especially this time of year. Three selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker went from joyous to some low sad tones that made me feel small and of no consequence. I also enjoyed “Lord of the Dance” and “Sabre Dance.” If you get a chance to hear a Hand Bell concert at a local Church or club, please go. I may go hear a “Handbell Concert" The First State Ringers on Wednesday, December 23 at the "Longwood Gardens" Kennett Square, PA. If you want to go along, we would have to take off ½ a day from work to drive the hour plus, enjoy and see indoor plants, beautiful landscaping, a half million Christmas lights and attend a organ-sing-a-long. Adult admission - $16.00, I’ll drive my new car.
